When I worked in a secular job I had the tendency of leaving before my shift was over. My shift was from 12-6 pm but I was under the impression that I could leave at 5:30 or 5:45 pm. Which was short of my assigned time to leave. One day my manager caught wind of what I was doing and he said to me, “I need you finish your shift. I need you to finish your assignment!” Too many of us in the Kingdom of God are clocking out before our shift is over!
I have noticed in my life that I don’t mind staying longer than normal when there is JOY in the work. When I was in the club. I stayed until they cut the lights on. When I had fellowships at my house, folks spent hours and wore out their welcome. When I am on the golf course. I don’t leave until I finish the 18th hole. But there are times when it comes to what God wants us to do that we look for any reason to clock out early. We are so trifling that I order to receive our pay even when we leave early we will have a friend to “clock us out” at the appropriate time.
Philippians 1:6 states, “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”
I have determined that because the Lord hasn’t clocked out on me…that I will finish my shift. I don’t want to misuse the awesome gift that God has placed in me and that he had enough confidence to hire me for the work! We have too many “believers” that are skimming the system. We want the paycheck and the promotion but not the faithfulness to the work that it requires!
Are you clocking out early?
