I know we don’t like to be criticized. We have a nature that we want everyone to like us and like what we do. But there are times where people can have an opinion about us and we don’t have to strike back. I know many of you think I am speaking of a personal situation but I am highlighting that concept that plaques us in our lives.
I have noticed that our President has that tendency. If someone praises him. He praises them. If someone criticizes him, then he fires back at them. This type of rhetoric is not helpful in life for those in the world and those in the church.
Ephesians 4:29 states, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” NIV
Just because someone doesn’t like you, like what you say or like your methods doesn’t mean that it is ok to retaliate with words. I know we are prideful and don’t want to seem weak, but I have truly learned in my life to let God fight my battles. You may think that telling someone off or degrading them because they degraded you is the answer but if we truly want to walk like Christ then we must talk like Christ as well. You can’t SHOUT ABOUT GOD and SPEAK NEGATIVE ABOUT OTHERS out of the same mouth!
I will leave you with the rest of the 4th chapter of Ephesians and you meditate on that:
“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
