“In my old age…I have learned to slow down!”

Recently I had to take a look at my driving record. I noticed a interesting detail. The older I get the more I have learned to slow down. When I was younger I was getting stopped frequently for speeding. It wasn’t that I was really in a hurry to get places but I just felt as though everyone else was slow and I needed to go faster than everyone else. I would even take offense to those who passed me on the highway and I would speed up to show them I could go fast. But now that I am more mature and older I have learned that speeding can be dangerous and if I prepare myself I can get to where I need to be on time.

Well what are you trying to say? I guess I am saying that now after experiencing life and moving up in age, I realize that this race is not given to the swift nor to the strong but to the one that endures to the end. I have learned that I don’t need to hurry things along but to take my time and let things develop in the way that they need to develop. This applies to relationships, ministry, family, business and life experiences.

A few lessons that I have learned is:

1. If I am going to fast I don’t have time to appreciate the journey. Life comes and goes. Take your time to take it all in. When I speed through life I have to worry about crashing and getting caught. My mind is not focused on the journey.

2. That when I get pulled over for speeding I lost all of the progress I made and those who take their time are passing me up anyway. The mishaps of going to fast and not appreciating the journey will cause you to spend time on the side of the road. And those who you said were going to slow have now passed you up.

I am on the back side of life and I am now enjoying the ride. I take my time and I am at peace with the speed I am going. I am taking in the sites. Now when people pass me up, I just throw them the PEACE sign and move out the way! Slow down and enjoy the journey!
