I am Working While I am Wounded…

As the Super Bowl approaches this Sunday my mind takes me back to the quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles Carson Wentz. In a game earlier this season he was hurt on a play trying to score. As he limped to the huddle he continued to run a few more plays and eventually threw a touchdown. After that series he was taken and evaluated and it was determined that he injured his knee to the point that he had to have surgery and his season was over.

What impressed me was that although he was injured he continued to work while he was wounded. He was hurting but he did not pull himself out of the game. His adrenaline and dedication to the task gave him enough strength to stick it out until he finished the goal. How many of us can testify that we are working while wounded?

In Nehemiah chapter 4 verse 6 it states, “So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work.”

They were being attacked from enemies on every side. The enemies were upset because they were making progress with the work but the people decided to keep working because they had a “mind to work”. Nehemiah prayed and the people got back to work to finish the wall.

The enemy doesn’t want you to do what God has called you to do. The enemy does not want you to fulfill the purpose the God has for you. So he will attack and wound you to cause you to quit. But I have made it up in my mind that as long as the Lord fights my battles. I can stand up and fight with the Lord. He has been too good to me to quit because I am wounded.

Yes, the injury to Carson Wentz is causing him to miss the rest of the season but because of his efforts the Eagles are playing in the Super Bowl. And he will be back next year to get back in the work. The Lord didn’t allow Moses to see the promised land but he did USE him for the journey. I don’t know what has wounded you. I don’t know what has caused you issues. I don’t know who has caused you strife. But continue working because your labor is not in vain.

James 1:12 states, “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.”

  1. Some times our wounds are self-inflicted. We should hold ourselves accountable for the actions that may have caused the wounds. I like the analogy of Carson Wentz and how he kept working while wounded. Might I add that I believe sometimes God allows us to be wounded because we’re hard headed. Maybe He knows that sometimes being wounded is the only way for us to STOP what we are doing and LISTEN and/or SEE what God has for our life. I don’t know about you, but I have yet to see a wound heal when someone hasn’t taken the time to tend to it. Even in the end through his pain and suffering, Carl Wentz needed repair and rest. Great post!
