I told myself I wasn’t going to concern myself with rhetoric surrounding the State of the Union address. I have been fed up with the lies and demeanor of our president. He touts that he is a different politician, but he is proving to be just that. A politician that makes promises but doesn’t deliver on those promises. I am not saying that President Obama accomplished everything that he said he would do but what gets me with Trump is the ways and characteristics that he does in the office.
Here is why I decided to blog about this. As I am watching the re-run of the State of the Union address I am noticing the way that as he speaks he is welcoming and even giving himself praise and credit. His use of personal pronouns makes me cringe. He touts and boast about what he has done and what (his) administration has done but the way he does it makes me cringe. I am sorry. I do not mean to harp on Trump, but I do not trust him. I am not here to bash him but blog about my feelings surrounding this speech. The one thing that his staff did get right is that they made him read his teleprompter because he is stuck on that teleprompter and he is not veering from the script. Also, someone should tell him that clapping in the mic is annoying and overbearing.
The reason I titled this blog “The Problem with a Self-Righteous Sinner” is because as I look at Trump my mind takes me to the scripture in Luke chapter 8 verses 9-14 that states:
9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men [are], extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as [his] eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified [rather] than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
I am so tempted to replace “Pharisee” with “politician” or even “president”. No one in this world has the authority or audacity to boast about their accomplishments without giving full credit to God.
Romans 3:10 states, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:”
I know that this world tends to hide itself when it comes to giving God credit but even if you can’t say that God did it in public…act like HE did it. But God in His unconditional love, His grace and His mercy is what makes us righteous…
For those who have ever done the “LOVE Languages Test”, Trump’s love language is mostly likely AFFIRMATION. It seems that he needs to boast himself and get credit for everything to make himself successful. The one thing I know and the one thing I lean on is that: “To God be the Glory for the GREAT things HE has done.”
