Do I Need Church?…

Welcome to 2018! I am glad to be back on track with my blogs and I am praying for each of you in the New Year. As I was thinking about the end of 2017, I was thinking about how church attendance has been declining among our churches. At first I thought it was just the church where I serve but after talking to other pastors it is a common problem. There are many who are not leaving the church but are not making Sunday worship a priority.

After talking with a few parishioners, their response was either: (1) my child has sports, (2) I have to work or (3) I watched it online. There are many things that we deal with in life that can detour or distract us from Worship. The question I raise on today is: what does God require of our Worship?

Some will say that worship is not tied to Sunday morning or Saturday for those who are Seven Day Adventist. We do know that God does ask that we “not forsake ourselves from the assembly” (Hebrews 10). The early church in Acts fellowshipped together and broke bread together. What do we need to do to get back to the act and devotion of consistent worship and fellowship?

I was raised that the one thing that is important is church on Sunday. When I miss church I feel that something that week was missing in my life. Can you truly be a disciple and not attend worship on a regular basis? These thoughts are just to raise our awareness and to begin the discussion on “Do I Need Church?”

  1. I believe that some people are getting away from “traditional” worship. What’s the logic of live streaming a service if it’s not the true desire of the ministry leader? Let’s be honest, its a convenience that people like. Like you mentioned, physical attendance is cyclical and the Bible doesn’t say the assembly had to be physical. So, would it be safe to say that that watching a service online is still assembling with your fellow brother and sisters in Christ?
