Playing the Hand I am Dealt…

I am an avid spades player. I can play without even thinking about what I am doing. There are times when the dealer deals a hand that I am not happy with. Although I would like to call foul or throw in my hand, I have to toughen up and play the hand that I was dealt.

Life is like that. All of us would love days where we have a hand that we can bid 8 or 9 books. But there are days in our lives where we have to admit we have 1 or no books. Not even a possible! But like spades you can’t throw in your hand or refuse to play. You have to play what you have been dealt and hope that your next hand is much better.

Paul told the Lord in 2 Corinthians chapter 9 that he had a thorn in his flesh and he asked the Lord on 3 occasions to remove the thorn. But the Lord’s answer to Paul was, “My Grace is Sufficient for You!” Like Paul we have thorns in our flesh. Our thorns may be financial, depression, marriage, health, children, job (or no job), haters, purpose or addictions.

The Lord said that I know you have been dealt a bad hand but I have enough grace to cover it!

Just like in spades…when I have a bad hand. I don’t fret or fear because my partner is smiling because he has all the books. We must realize that just because we have a bad hand we have a partner named Jesus Christ who has our back. What we don’t have…God does! That should comfort anyone to know that the Lord has the victory in His hand!

  1. That’s good news. I will use that that in the future. It’s a great way to remind someone that they are not in this game of life by themselves. This is helpful, thank you.
