In Romans 12:1, Paul told his readers “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” Paul turns the page from the first 11 chapters and urges his readers to consider all that God has done for us and what we should do for Him. He says that presenting our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God is our reasonable service. In this Paul is saying, what you do for God is not extreme…for what He has done for you.
If that is the case, then why do we struggle with our service unto the Lord? Why do allow things, people and situations to hinder our service unto God. I wonder if we put too much emphasis on why we serve rather than who we serve.
If I am focused on why I am serving then I begin to analyze the details behind the service such as: who I am serving with?, who is in charge?, how long will this take?, is this making me happy?, am I getting anything from this?, and do they really need me? When we realize who we are serving then the details are irrelevant.
When I think of the goodness of Jesus and all that He has done for me…I SHOULD RUN TO THE WORK OF THE LORD!
Even Christ in Matthew 20:28 stated, “Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” Christ knew that His mission while on earth was to serve and do the work of the Father. If Christ sacrificed of His power, strength and time to serve then we should not be selfish and make our service and our ministry about ourselves. Each of us has been given a gift to bless the Kingdom of God. Use your gift for the glory of the Lord and not for your glory! I don’t serve because I am looking for something…I serve because of what I have been given already. The old saints used to say, “Serving the Lord will pay off after while!”. I am here to tell you that it has already paid off in my life!

To know God is to love God, and to love God is to serve God!
Thank you. Sometimes we need a reminder. This blessed me today.
Yes! I agree, serving should not be done in expectation of a blessing but as the scripture suggests, it’s the least we can do.
Personally, serving the people of God just feels good! Having the wisdom, resources and ability to do so should not be taken lightly.
