Do you believe that God loves you? If you believe in the scriptures, especially John 3:16 (For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life), then you know that the love God has for you is not matched in any kind of way. God’s love for us bears many characteristics but the amazing part about His love is that it is “unconditional.”
So when we look at the scriptures, and there are many that command this, we are love one another AS Christ has loved us. Hmmm. You mean to tell me that if the love I receive is not matched, how can I love AS Christ loved me.
It is a command that is both doable and beneficial. When we received God’s love. It shows us the example of how we are to love. The problem is (1) We don’t really comprehend His love for us and (2) Our pride and self-preservation prohibits us from loving others more than they love us.
God has been loving us from the very beginning…even when we are deemed unlovable. Romans 5:8 states, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”. While we were messed up, he loved and died for us.
So we should work toward loving others as God loves (present tense) us. It will help us, our witness and help increase the Kingdom of God!
