I don’t know how many of you have seen the movie “Get Out”. In it there is a place where the young man is taken to mentally called the “Sunken Place”. It is a place where he falls into a black mass of nothing. Away from reality with nothing to grab on to.
There have been times where I have fallen into my sunken place. A place to where there is no control over my life or situation. A place where you feel alone and there is no one there to help or rescue you. A place where you feel that the more good you do the more evil is in your life.
I can recall in 1 Samuel 22 where David found himself in his sunken place…The Cave of Adullam. David resorted to this place to escape the hit out on his life by King Saul. He was hiding and retreating from his problems. Finally after the Lord spoke to him. He left his sunken place and carried on where God wanted him to be.
What do you do when you find yourself in your sunken place? Do you stay where you are and throw a pity party? Do you blame others for your sunken place? Do you give up and be destructive in your sunken place?
When you find yourself in your sunken place you must trust in God and know that your sunken place is temporary.
The devil wants you to reside and abide in your sunken place. He doesn’t want you to be free in the Lord and operating without fear. He wants you to destroy relationships, destroy hope, destroy your potential. The devil wants to keep you in a stronghold to where he has his foot on your neck and not letting you go.
But I take comfort in knowing that “no weapons formed against me shall prosper” and that the Lord is on my side. “If God be for me…who can be against me”
